About

I use software to explore the ways software shapes our lives.

We have entered lifelong relationships and created codependencies with code-based systems. We tell the systems where we go every day and what we like to eat and what we like for fun and sex. We hide our secrets in them and we trust them like no other. We believe in our systems without knowing how they do the things they do. When the physical world induces anxiety, we retreat to our systems. They are our churches and our therapists and our partners throughout life. The systems we created have changed what it means to be human. To the extent art explores humanity, art must explore the systems.

Some examples of systems I’ve created are featured here.

Highrise is a digital impressionist study of cityscapes. Technology has always driven development of urban centers. But with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic and the era of remote work, technology enabled a great migration away from some of the world's most populous cities.

Scenery explores the effects of technology on our landscapes—physical, emotional, and digital. Development shapes systems until the nature of those systems is thrown out of balance to a degree that development cannot continue. The system is cast into disarray until a new genus of order begins to form.
